Coaching with Positive Psychology

Coaching and Positive Psychology are natural partners. Coaching is the main tool used to deliver positive psychology. Both are concerned with enhancing optimal human functioning and well-being, helping an individual towards a state of flourishing and multiple successes. We offer positive psychology coaching for professional and personal development.

We use a strengths-based approach to coaching in the workplace. By using your core strengths at work on a consistent basis you become able to tap into your full potential, driving peak performance and success. There is a growing body of evidence that shows that organisations that capitalize on the strengths of their staff are more productive and enjoy higher levels of employee engagement. There are also other benefits such as increased innovation, job satisfaction and positive leadership.

Coaching with Positive Psychology

  • Increase happiness & well-being
  • Identify and act from strengths
  • Develop optimism & challenge pessimism
  • Discover life purpose and increase meaning and engagement
  • Energise personal & professional goals
  • Manage life transitions such as career change
  • Build resilience to bounce back from adversity

The focus of our personal coaching is on increasing well-being using the evidence-based interventions from the science of happiness. Although there is some common ground between coaching and therapy, the main difference is that coaching is a form of behavioural mentoring focused on what you want to gain for your life and is future-oriented. Counselling and therapy are more of a means to emotional understanding of past difficulty in order to be released from it. However the absence of a difficulty such as depression is not the same as the presence of happiness, contentment and satisfaction in life and therein lies the difference. What positive psychology offers are tools to help you – from whatever your starting point – move into the presence of well-being. This quotation from Prof Martin Seligman, the founder of positive psychology, sums it up neatly.

“Dr. Seligman is turning his attention to training Positive Psychologists, individuals whose practice will make the world a happier place, parallel to the way clinical psychologists have made the world a less unhappy place.” – Positive Psychology Center, University of Pennsylvania.

“Facing redundancy after 7 years of working for the same company, I decided to sign up for a series of coaching sessions with Miriam. Just last week I was telling someone about my new job that I love as a dance instructor and the words I used to explain it rang a bell. They were almost the exact words that Miriam and I had put together to construct the description of my ideal job during our sessions. At the time I had no idea what the job role would be but I knew how I wanted to feel about it and the qualities it would bring to myself and other people.  It’s wonderful that what I wanted has materialised and I am very grateful to Miriam for her use of cutting edge methods to help me see a future that I’d not even believed was possible for me.” – Isabelle
